Week 4

This week consisted of conducting four major tasks, finishing up the conceptual design, continuing the building process of the design model and beginning to write up the solution report to use as a final deliverable.

In reference to the conceptual design a system was needed to figure out people would be able to enter into the underwater structure. In order to solve this problem inspiration came from an experience in a drive through bank. When depositing money or a check, they are put into a small cylindrical can that fits inside of a tube which pushes the can up and down the tube. In the same manor a large cylinder very similar to a large straw will come out of the top of the building and to the surface of the water. This will contain an elevator that moves people in and out of the underwater home.

The building of the underwater home model hit a few issues when it came to the materials binding together. Liquid cement was the chosen bonding agent however the fifteen minute drying time prove difficult to deal with. The clear vinyl tubing that is being used to represent a window surrounding the structure is difficult to keep in place for the total of fifteen minutes and keeps curling and popping off what it needs to bind to.

The solution report has been laid out in a template in order to begin filling in, in detail, all that must be done for the major issues/engineering feats that are to be accomplished in this project.
