This weeks main tasks were continuing the solution report as well as the building of the model. Both of these tasks are moving along smoothly and the building issue in the previous week was nothing that a second pair of hands could not fix. For this week a test of the electrolysis experiment was carried out in order to understand on a first hand basis how the splitting of water into O2 and H2 works.
Here is a video of part of the experiment. It it clear that the Hydrogen gas which comes off of the black alligator clip attached to the anode of the battery is more bountiful in water (H2O) because those bubbles are created more rapidly than that Oxygen bubbles. Therefore in order to do this procedure to fuel the underwater home with oxygen, a large amount of hydrogen gas will need to be released to the surface of the ocean. Next we would like to figure out how long it would take to fill the space with oxygen and how much power it would take.
This small scale experiment is performed with a 9 volt battery.
