Lab in week three consisted of bringing together the materials that would be needed in order to build a scale model of the habitat. Materials which may be used will be made of plastics and clear vinyl tubing. For the issue of binding the elements of the model together the group will need to decide whether a liquid cement or an epoxy would be more suited for the model when it is submerged underwater. In order to give more than aesthetic usage to the model the group decided to attempt to put a small mechanism that can carry out electrolysis inside the model. This proposal brings about a few issues, such as how will an observer know that oxygen is being added to the interior of the structure, the creation of hydrogen gas on the other hand will be clearly visible as it filters out of the structure and floats to the top of the water.
For the issue of pressure in deep water a few interesting design aspects were realized. Submarines were the greatest source of knowledge and inspiration for this issue. One solution being that the shape of the structure can help with the pressurization and another being that the size of the structure can also aid in relieving the pressure underwater.
